Clinical Psychology
Clinical psychology: work spread over sessions, not over a prescription
A clinical psychologist does not prescribe: their tools are the interview, assessment and psychotherapy, across a run of sessions. What separates this from an ordinary medical appointment is therefore time — the outcome does not fit into one session, it is built over a series, and it is better to know that from the start.
What this specialist handles
- Anxiety, chronic stress and the sleep difficulties that come with them.
- Grief and the aftermath of difficult events.
- Psychological trauma and its lasting effects.
- Family, couple and relationship difficulties.
- Behavioural difficulties in children and adolescents, and support for parents.
- Psychological support alongside a chronic or serious illness.
When to book
- Distress that lasts, gets in the way of daily life and does not ease with time.
- An event you cannot move past: a loss, a separation, an accident.
- The same patterns repeating at work or in relationships.
- When a doctor or psychiatrist suggests psychological support alongside medical follow-up.
What the visit looks like
The first session is an assessment: mapping what you want to work on, its history, and objectives you can agree on. You will not be asked to tell everything at once — the pace is built with you.
Sessions are then scheduled at regular intervals, often weekly or fortnightly, over a period reviewed together. You can ask at the outset for a rough number of sessions and how progress will be judged, and you can change practitioner if it does not feel right.
Booking on Maouidi
Install the Maouidi app on Android and create an account with your phone number.
Search by specialty, then filter by wilaya.
Open the practitioner or clinic profile: address, services, and how they take bookings.
Pick your slot. Some practitioners work in fixed time slots, others hand out queue numbers for the day — the app shows which one each of them uses.
Confirm. The appointment appears in the app, together with your queue number if the practitioner works that way.
Turn up at the time or the number shown. Consultations are paid at the clinic. If something comes up, cancel in the app ahead of time so the place goes to someone else.
Clinical psychology is a separate specialty in the Maouidi list, distinct from psychiatry and from speech therapy. For medication follow-up the specialty is psychiatry; for a child’s language or learning, it is speech therapy.

Can a psychologist prescribe medication?
No. Prescribing belongs to doctors, and the psychiatrist is the one who handles it. Many situations are followed by both at once, each within their own field.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the request and the agreed objective; it is discussed in the first session and reviewed as you go. There is no single number, and promising a fixed one before hearing you goes beyond what can be known.
Are sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a rule of this practice. Where a child is involved, ask in the first session how communication with the parents is organised.
